Information Update 261008
Burnham on Crouch
Between 7 and 21 October, lead flashing was stolen from Lonton and Grey, Sail Makers, High Street, from the extension joint, with an estimated value of £300. Any information to Pc Wendy Brown
During the afternoon of 21 October, a blue Raleigh ATB bicycle with front basket, valued at £125, was stolen from the High Street. Any information to Pc Wendy Brown.
During the afternoon also, at Glendale Road, a Kona Hula mountain bike was stolen. The bike is valued at £230. Any information to Southminster Police Station.
Heybridge
Two bikes – black and grey BMX and red and silver Sabar mountain bike – were stolen from Butt Close overnight on 21/22 October. Bikes are valued at £450. Any information to Maldon Police Station
Please note: none of the bikes were secured, making theft extremely easy. Bikes should be secured against theft at all times, even if the bike is stored at home, it should be securely locked. Marking the bike, either with a UV pen, giving house number and post code, will help police reunite any found bike with its owner. Bikes can also be security tagged or etched.
Any registration numbers, or an accurate description, or a photo will also help identify any recovered bicycles.
Chigborough
Between October 1 and 19, galvanised steel mesh was stolen from the gates of the Essex Wildlife Trust at Chigborough. The gates are valued at £188. Any information to Pc Cally MacIver.
Maldon
During the afternoon of October 16, at the market in Butt Lane Car Park, behind the High Street, three women and one man removed a signet ring from a market stall. The stall holder challenged them and recovered the ring, but is concerned that other traders or shops may be targeted. All of the suspects are described as being of eastern European appearance, wearing full length skirts and tops. All the women were small – about 5’3’’ – 5’4’’ and aged around 60, 20 and a teenager. The man was in his 60’s, wore a trilby, jacket and a cravat. They were believed to use a blue VW Sharon. Any information to Pc Sam Pateman.

Information Update 121008
Heybridge
Overnight on 6/7 October, at Crescent Road, the front door lock of a Silver VW Passat was drilled out, and the offside electric windows forced down, to gain entry to the vehicle and steal an in-car stereo DVD. Information to Pc Jackie Thorogood at Maldon please.
Please make sure you remove from your car any valuables or electrical goods when you leave the car unattended. In this case, the damage caused was more than the value of the items stolen.
This method of drilling the locks to gain entry is new to Maldon. Please make sure that any other instances are reported immediately.
Overnight on 10/11 October at Abbotsmead, the front wings were stolen from a blue Citroen Saxo. The wings were carefully removed, probably for re-use on another vehicle. Can you watch out for any vehicle (especially a Saxo) with different coloured wings and let the police know immediately if you see one. And it would take time and effort to take the wings off a car – did anyone see anything in Abbotsmead. The vehicle was left at 6pm. It was still light.
Heybridge Basin
During the night of 9/10 October, a Yamaha outboard engine was stolen from a boat at Stebbens Boat Yard. The engine was removed by undoing the bolts, causing damage to the boat. The engine is estimated to be worth £10,000.
There have been 34 marine thefts in the Maldon area since April, many coinciding with a night time high tide, as was last weekend. In many cases, boats or outboards have not been secured and owners do not keep information that would allow identification, such as serial numbers. There is an ongoing operation to tackle marine theft, but boat owners can help themselves by securing boats and onboard items, and keeping identification information in case of loss.
Goldhanger, Maldon
On October 7, between 1145am and 245pm, a house in Church Street, Goldhanger was burgled. Entry was gained via an insecure rear door. The burglars made a lot of mess in their search and made off with cash, electrical goods (including a PS3) and jewellery, including a wedding ring. This is a crime that could have been prevented, possibly, if the rear door was secured. The stolen items are valued at £1400. Any information, please call Maldon Police Station.
Southminster
Between 3/4 October, lead was stolen from the roof of the Old Parish Rooms, Burnham Road, Southminster. The loss was reported on 10 October, because the reporter was in hospital. Half a metre of lead was recovered near the scene.
There is a sharp increase in metal theft in the area. Police are working hard but cannot be in all places at once. To remove lead takes time and effort and anyone seen doing “work” on a building should be reported if there is any doubt whatsoever as to their intentions. Any information to Maldon Police Station.
During the night of 7/8 October, at a property under construction in Southminster Road, Asheldham, the front door was forced and a diesel generator, worth £10,000 was stolen. Please contact Pc Dave Goodchild if you have any information.
A pane of glass was broken at Christchurch United reform Church in North Street, during the afternoon of 9 October. If anyone saw or heard anything, please contact Pc Jackie Thorogood.
Burnham on Crouch
During the night of 10/11 October, entry was gained through an insecure rear door and car keys were taken to steal a red Nissan Cabstar reg no E173KLW. Two points – firstly the insecure door and secondly, never leave car keys where they can be easily found. If you have any information, or if you see the vehicle, please contact Pc Patrick Snape.
Between late on October 10 and the afternoon of October 12, lead was stolen from the toilet block at Burnham cemetery, Southminster Road. This follows the very recent theft of copper piping from the same building. Some lead was left hanging off the roof, which may mean the thieves were disturbed. Did anyone see or hear anything? Removing lead from a roof takes time, makes some noise and a vehicle is needed to take the lead away.
Anything suspicious, please report it. It is better say something and be wrong than right and do nothing.
And finally…..
There are NO thefts of solar garden lights to report this week.
