DISTRACTION BURGLARY – please treat as urgent!

Between 1515 and 1535 on 27 May a male knocked on the door of an 86 year old woman in Burnham on Crouch, claiming to be from the “Water Board”. Whilst he was talking to the lady, a second male entered the property and stole £250 cash from inside the property.
First suspect is a white male, around 30 years old, with short dark hair, stocky build, no accent, wearing dark jeans and a jacket.
Second suspect is a white male, around 30-40 years old, thin build with light coloured hair thinning on top and wearing light coloured clothing.

Please can we check that vulnerable neighbours know to:
· Make sure doors and windows are locked to prevent entry – especially back doors if you are answering the front door.
· Do not answer the door if you are uncertain who is calling – use a Notice to Callers or No Cold Callers sign in your window – but then DO NOT ANSWER THE DOOR!
· If you do open the door, make sure you put the security chain on before opening
